It’s an interesting one. The game really benefits from having the minimap always on the second screen. And controlling merc with stylus is pretty nice. But then I couldn’t find how to switch weapons or reserve AP in this version, which was very easy in the original. You start with hiring mercenaries. Some of them don’t have weapons at all. Some have a pistol, but no ammo. There’s plenty of .38 ammo to begin with, but if you hired someone with .45, you may run dry. If you didn’t hire a medic: though luck. This one is convincing, though, at least at a first glance. I finished both Jagged Alliance 1 as a kid, and Jagged Alliance 2 as a teenager, but honestly, I don’t remember much. They brought many of the fan favorite mercenaries, like Ivan, Scully and Shadow. Also, each mercenary has an absolutely unique perk, in addition to common ones. For Atreides, there’s one interesting mission where you start without a base, and need to capture a starport from smuglers, reference to Gurney Haleck episode from the original book. The “superweapons” for both Atreides and Harkonen are somewhat laughable. Atreides airstrike (basically A10 from Command&Conquer) cannot destroy a single turret, not a refinery. Considering that unlike Death Hand, those can also be countered with rather cheap missile towers, it’s quite lackluster. - [Gledalough Double Barrel](https://aleosha.blog/2026/03/23/gledalough-double-barrel/): 12th bottle from the Advent Whiskey Calendar. Not a fan of Irish whiskey, but this is a decent one as far as I’m concerned. Smooth, as expected from Irish, with notes of vanilla. At a strange 42% ABV (not 40%, but also not 46%), it still has some warmth in it. For 31GBP, it’s a good deal, although not one I’d take personally.

They speed up your economy by carrying harvesters to and from spice fields, and they also carry units heading for repairs, if they are free. And, unlike in many other games, they actually circle instead of hovering in one spot. The campaign is hard and easy at the same time. What you gonna do, complain that no beer deserve such a rating? This stout barrel aged imperial stout Poland does. It’s a fantastic beer. Haven’t been such impressed since Brau, probably? It says vanilla, I say chocolate and prunes. From what I can tell, yar also impacts ABV. Mine was 12%, 2022 was 13%, it seems.

Orc campaign in the Frozen Throne is considered a bonus campaign, because it’s not really a strategy. Instead, it’s a ARPG. Another precursor to World of Warcraft. Considering it’s still an RTS engine we’re talking about, it’s pretty impressive: with a hero stash, side quests, respawning enemies and even dungeon instances. - [Whiskey Advent Calendar](https://aleosha.blog/2026/03/16/whiskey-advent-calendar-4/): 10th bottler is Japanese Hibiki Harmony. It’s nice, but not 65GBP for a blended 43% ABV nice. Did I say 65GBP? It’s 73GBP now. 11th bottle is Samuel Gulliver & Co England’s No 6, English whiskey. It has a surprising amount of warmth for 46%, and some sweetness too, and tangy finish. But for 77GBP? I can get much better cask strength Scotch bottles.

- [Zichovec Tonka Stout](https://aleosha.blog/2026/02/21/zichovec-tonka-stout/): Another bottle that was hanging around for months, because it’s 14%, so you can’t drink it casually. Although it’s not expensive, as far as barrel ages stouts are concerned. And it’s absolutely fantastic. Drinks like a smooth vanilla liquor with coffee notes. - [New York Distilling Ragtime Rye Double Oak](https://aleosha.blog/2026/02/18/new-york-distilling-ragtime-rye-double-oak/): 9th bottle from the Advent Calendar. It’s a surprise on so many levels. It doesn’t taste of rye much, and it doesn’t have the medicinal taste I often associate with oak. It is sweet, and unbelievable smooth for 56% ABV. Not to be confused with regular Ragtime Rye, which is “only” 45%. Has a long warm aftertaste. At 48GBP it’s incredible value.

I didn’t have to sharpen my Shun or Miyabi once since I bought it, just to hone them occassionally with Horl. It does stain from strawberries and such, but the stains also go away. And it doesn’t retain any smell from onions. I usually wash it by hand, but had occassionally put it in dishwasher, without issues. It is heavy, but I still use rubber grip mat sometimes.

For that price, you can get yourself a nice sherried Cask Strength. 6th bottle is Uncle Nearest 1884. It’s a bourbon. You can taste the corn, and it has a surprising afterwarmth to it. But not something I would buy, despite a reasonable price of 55GBP (when available).

I thought those are just smaller CD-ROMs in a rectangular case, maybe? Turns out, it’s more of a HDD, but with a single disc instead of multiple ones. Magnetic, and so rewritable, and with a cache onboard (so it wasn’t just a plastic case), that protected from skipping. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one. Playing Leon B scenario I can see that the two pistols with different ammo exists here as well. This scenario feels like the toughest yet, I haven’t been running out of ammo or being limited by inventory as much in my previous two runs. The biggest issue are the lickers. Even upgraded Magnum can’t get them in a single shot, so dealing with two at a time is a problem.
