After buying whiskey advent calendars for a couple of years, I came to a simple conclusion that I’m not excited about Scotch whiskies anymore. I like them the most, but I’m not interested in trying more, because I had most of them, either as a bottle, or as a taster, or a better version of:
And this year I’m going through the World Whiskey calendar, which doesn’t change that much either.
What else is there? There’s Japanese whiskey. Those whiskies are more expensive, and so are the calendars. I always purchased the calendars after a discount, paying around 100GBP, but discounted Japanese whiskey calendars are 160GBP discounted.
And since I was dragging my feet into February, they actually stopped being discounted, and started selling for 250GBP again.
Luckily some shops are still selling them at the old price. Or so I thought.
There are actually at least three Japanese Whiskey Advent calendars.
I call them Drinks by the Dram Red:

Drinks by the Dram Blue or Kintsugi:

Which is doubly confusing, as Masters of Malt sells all three of them.
Out of the three, Drinks by the Dram Blue is probably the worst deal, as it cost same as Red, while it has more cheap whiskeys than the Masters of Malt one.

Master of Malt has more mid-range whiskeys:
But the Red one contains more age-statement whiskeys, including Yamazaki 18 Year Old, which is 580GBP per bottle, and Hakushu 12 (150GBP per bottle)
So I ordered what was supposed to be the Red from Amazon. But received the Blue one instead. Now I’ll begin the saga of trying to get a refund 🤷♂️
