King of Fighters Retrospective

A monumental work, hours of footage on evolution of King of Fighter series.
This series always was one of my less-favorite on Neo Geo, since I never liked the tag-battle 3×3 format.
But the retrospective is still brilliant. For one, little did I know that the storyline didn’t make much sense to me, because SNK were creating their own universe. So a lot of the critical plotlines were told only in manga, for example. Even if you finished the game and managed to get through terrible English translation, you still wouldn’t understand a thing, and this is the way it was intended.
Next surprise: KoF ’99 has a different style, because the lead designer worked on another postapocalyptic fighting game… Fallen Angels. Yes, the unfinished fighting game I wrote about some time ago. And a lot of new characters, including K’ (hate that name) are straight from Fallen Angels.
And KoF 2001 had the artist from Real Bout Fatal Fury. That’s why the character portraits are much more anime-like than in any other game in the series.

Medieval Misconceptions: Sex

A few notes:
The purpose of this hat is literally to face-lift.
Woman was considered appropriate if her cleavage wasn’t lower than her armpit.
Confessors were handed manuals listing various sexual deviations. That didn’t give anyone any ideas, I’m sure.
One of a very few reasons a lady could get a divorce was if her husband couldn’t perform in bed. He had to prove himself, in front of a few crones. Or maybe those were MILFs? Who knows.
Also, relatives witnessing consumation or at least hearing had similar purpose: so no side could break the marriage.
Illiterate didn’t mean “cannot read”. It meant “cannot read Latin”, which is a different thing, one must agree.

Atari Jaguar – What Happened?

The most intersting bit in this video is that Atari Jaguar was marketed as a 64bit system, because it had 2 32bit processors.

32+32=64 🤦‍♂️

It also had a third CPU, Motorola 68000, same as Sega Genesis. Some developers didn’t care much about learning a new architecture, so the entire game was running on the CPU, which explains why many games on Jaguar looked like they were running on Genesis.

NES Advantage

Discovered that there was an official arcade stick made for NES.

People say, though, that for many games, it was more of a disadvantage.

Loadout – Real Weapons that Inspired Star Wars Arsenal

Another fantastic video from Loadout and well-known weapon expert Jonathan Ferguson.
This time about the origins of some weapons from the original Star Wars trilogy:

I was surprised that they even mentioned Dark Forces / Jedi Knights games.
Also, I didn’t know that Boba Fett’s pistols are inspired by Webley & Scott Flare Gun. Always thought those are some kind of revolvers.
